Are you wondering what sports nutrition for peak performance is all about?
Although athletes in the different disciplines have unique nutrition challenges and requirements, all snow sports athletes can help their performance with the following approaches:

Fueling Up
Eat generous amounts of carbohydrates to provide fuel for your muscles during racing and training.
The season is long, and you want to be well-fueled
on a daily basis.

Staying Focused
Start the day with breakfast to replenish your body after a night’s rest. Breakfast improves alertness, focus, and coordination. Stop mid-day for a good lunch to refuel again for afternoon training or competing.

Reducing Injury Risk
Most ski injuries happen late in the day, when skiers are physically and mentally tired. Reduce muscle fatigue and maintain focus with a good breakfast and lunch and plenty of water during the day.

Providing for Growth and Overall Health
A balanced day to day diet provides calories, protein, vitamins and minerals to help you grow. Athletes of all ages should eat a variety of foods to help protect their cells from the negative effects of exercising in a cold climate and to support their immune system so they stay well.

Recovery
Replenish, Rehydrate, Repair.
You need to “put back” what a hard day on the snow takes out of your body. Starting within about 30 minutes of wrapping up your activity you need some foods and fluids. This helps to replenish glycogen stores, rehydrate your body and repair muscles.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Kathy advised me in my role as Headmaster of Carrabassett Valley Academy, a high level competitive ski academy located at Sugarloaf, Maine. Kathy worked with the CVA coaching and kitchen staffs to help design a more nutritious menu for adolescent snow sport athletes. She very wisely directed how coaches could encourage good eating habits of athletes when traveling on the road. Kathy is always expanding her scope of service and is innovative in designing cutting-edge nutrition programs. – John Ritzo, Maine Ski Hall of Fame
